slp-upstream restoration
The slp upstream gets force-pushed at the start of each semester. Because of this, the previous semesters upstream is lost and can't easily be accessed again.
This repository attempts to archive the upstream into an "easily" browsable form by continuously monitoring the GitLab push activity api. If any new commits are added to the upstream a scheduled workflow downloads them and attempts to insert them into this growing git repository.
You can access the previous semesters by checking out their respective tag/branch. Use the Forgejo Commit Graph to see how the branches relate to semesters.
Limitations and Oddities
- The semester start commit seems to always be a root commit without a parent. This is mirrored in this restoration. Probably the only way around it would be to manually stich the commit graph together using worktree content instead of commit hash, but this is out of scope for now.
- upstream Rebases/Squash Merge creates a stub branch pointing to the unmerged development branch. This is just how git works, a rebase simply creates a new commit because the old one is immutable.
AI disclaimer
Both the scheduled workflow and the script it uses where entirely vibe-coded. Shame on me.
